Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen Slot Review (NetEnt)

Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen marks NetEnt’s first branded game release of 2021.

It is based on the reality TV show where two teams of aspiring chefs compete in a cooking competition while being challenged by the star chef, Gordon Ramsay, including his fiery temper and razor-sharp wit. The video slot has only 20 fixed lines and a simple 5-reel layout that won’t be nearly as intimidating as Gordon’s show personality even for the beginner slot goers. All that comes spiced with Gordon’s famous catchphrases, a random Wild feature in the base game and the biggest attraction of the show-slot that is the multi-level Free Spins bonus.

Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen slot will be released on 25 March 2021. You will find it at recommended NetEnt slot sites like Party Casino. See what I think of the slot after playing the demo for a good couple of days.

Ramsay’s Wilds Feature

First things first, there are only 8 regular non-stackable symbols in Ramsay slot’s paytable. These pay up to 10 credits for a full line, starting with a minimum of 3 of a kind for all. Wilds also appear from time to time, but what has a far bigger impact is a random bonus called Ramsay’s Wilds.

Adding 5-7 Wilds in random positions in the chef’s way.

It’s the most frequent and the only feature in the base game. Once activated, watch pots, plates and knives start flying and adding 5-7 Wild symbols randomly on the screen.

On average you can expect to win around 20x your bet. However, the wild feature is quite frequent, sometimes appearing even once every few spins. Ironically, the more of these you get, the less probable you are to get the main feature with free spins.

Team Challenge Free Spins

Get 3-4 Scatters for Free Spins!

Get 3 or 4 Scatters – in the form of Gordon’s portrait – on reels 1, 2, 4 or 5, to win 10 or 15 Free Spins, respectively.

The bonus reminds that the slot’s based on the Hell’s Kitchen show, doubling the number of slot games by giving team Red and Blue their own 20-liner. These will be displayed side by side and spun independently.

Below them is a scrolling menu of reel modifiers called The Order Up Feature. What it does is award either one or both teams win multipliers (x2 or x3 or both for x5) or 3-8 random Wilds. Though sometimes you won’t get anything.

The Order Up feature serves win boosters.

If the team that you’d picked wins with the biggest total win at the end of the spins, you’ll enter Gordon’s Bonus Game!

Gordon’s Bonus Game

The winner of the cooking competition, ie the Free Spins, progresses to a picking bonus. You’ll be presented with 15 Hell’s Kitchen cards, behind which are:

  • Random prizes of 2x, 3x or 5x bet
  • Total win multipliers of 2x or 3x
  • The X symbol.

The feature ends when you stumble upon three X symbols, after which you get paid your winnings and return to the base game.

Pick the winning team to enter Gordon’s Bonus after the spins for extra coins.

👍 Tip: The Hell’s Kitchen slot comes with the following RTP configurations: 91.02%, 93.01%, 95.07%, 96.07%, 96.07%.

Your Chance to Make the Cut?

Having played less design-focused slots lately made the Gordon Ramsay slot experience that much more enjoyable. There is plenty of action in the main game while a significant chunk of the RTP has also been allocated to the bonus. Because of that it can take a thousand or more spins of grinding and swearing to get it to trigger. Bonus payouts rarely disappointed during testing, paying on average 100x bet. Plus, the added bonus level that is the follow-up feature is a very nice idea on NetEnt’s part. It creates a sense of competition even though players get to keep winnings from both the red and the blue team.

Judging the game within its category I think this slot serves its purpose well and should not be dismissed by casual players or even experienced punters alike. It is also a sound addition to the studio’s other branded slots like Street Fighter II and Ozzy Osbourne, both of which offered serious competition in our 2020 awards. While the branding effect may dissipate over time, it won’t be easy to find a serious low volatility alternative given the industry’s opposite trend which has been dominating for the last couple of years.

Bon appétit!
