Golden Glyph Slot Review (Quickspin) — Studio’s First Reactor Slot

Golden Glyph takes you to the land of the Pharaohs. Itâs got a 7×7 layout that works well in portrait mode, and a few features to keep the reactions going. While itâs not a step up from existing titles, itâs a nice mix of Tumble Mechanics and boost features that can activate four different Power-Ups. One of them is a Free Spins Bonus thatâs capable of producing wins of more than 13,000x bet! Quickspin has got some healthy competition going in the realm of reactor games, which is a ânicheâ you canât ignore anymore. Golden Glyph fills a gap among popular titles with its theme, medium risk and relatively frequent bonus, which is great news for most fans and players whoâd like to try the reactions in a more uncommon, grid format, which is also easy to follow.
Tumbling Reels and Power Wilds
This game has no paylines. Instead, you need a cluster of 5 or more (adjacently) connected symbols to trigger a win.
On top of regular Wild, there are four low and three high symbols that pay up to 250x Total Bet for a cluster of 15 symbols or more.
Every time you get a win, the winning symbols will explode and the rest will tumble down to fill in empty spaces. Whatâs unique about this game is that each winning cluster will also form a Power Wild. And this is the key in keeping the symbols tumbling or âre-spinningâ, because each time a Power Wild happens to be a part of a win, itâll also activate a Power-Up feature.
Power-Ups â Blaze of Fire, Golden Scarab, Eye of Horus
Although Golden Glyph is one of the simpler grid slots out there, itâs got some special effects to add to the base game. This makes the game a bit more unpredictable and interesting to follow.
To activate a power-up, simply trigger a win which has a Power Wild in it. There will always be four boosters chosen at random (as seen on the curvy meter) from a total of 3 different power-ups:
- Blaze of Fire: Pays for all high and low win symbols in its row and column. Each removed symbol awards 1/20 of the current bet.
- Eye of Horus: Pays for all visible occurrences of a randomly chosen low symbol. For each such symbol youâll get 1/20 of the current bet.
- Golden Scarab: Spawns 4-10 random Wilds.
What you really want is the last Power-Up on the meter (the 5th one), which is always the Free Spins Bonus.
Free Spins Bonus â Featuring Golden Glyph
The bonus always starts with 9 free drops.
Whatâs special about this feature is the Golden Glyph Wild which has a progressive multiplier, kinda similar to the one found in Jamminâ Jars (Push Gaming). That multiplier increases by +1 with each win as this special Wild moves around with every spin.
The rest of the game is the same as before, including regular Power Wilds. Unfortunately, by re-triggering the feature youâll only get +3 free spins. If only they added another Golden Glyph with the re-trigger!
That said, the bonus is fairly frequent and offers the only chance at one of Quickspinâs biggest wins of just above 13,000x the total bet (similar to Mayana and Tigerâs Glory). This is possible only if you manage to level up the Golden Glyph Wild all the way to x99! The best I did after a handful of rounds was just over 200x. Besides, almost half of all bonuses were re-triggered at least once, which made it that much more fun.
Conclusion
When we started working on Golden Glyph, we wanted to create a game that felt like a classic puzzle or tile-matching game, like âPuyo Puyoâ and âBomberman: Panic Bomberâ. We also wanted to combine the characteristics of these types of games with the power-up features of classic RPG games, like âGolden Axeâ or âGauntletâ, where you get to collect and use power-ups to perform magic.

With volatility set to 3 out of 5 (like Dragon Chase or Phoenix Sun), Quickspinâs 12th slot of 2019 is in many ways a welcomed âdeviationâ. Although the max win falls short of Jamminâ Jarsâ (Push Gaming), itâs more than 2x bigger than some of the other reactor slots like Reactoonz (Playân GO). The medium volatility is also a better option for casual players and shorter sessions.
That said, the game looks good on paper and, more importantly, it seems to offer plenty of bang for the buck too. The design and structure will surely come down to personal preference, but judging for what it is you may not want to sit this one out. Keep an eye out for it at Rizk when it comes out on 29 October.
